Guides · ODPs

ODPs turn requirements into decisions. Decisions need defending.

Rev. 3's Organization-Defined Parameters replace fixed requirement text with values someone must choose — review frequencies, time windows, thresholds, scope lists. The imposing agency sets some; you set the rest, and you defend all of them.

What an ODP actually is

Where Rev. 2 might say "review audit logs," a Rev. 3 requirement says the equivalent of "review audit logs [with an organization-defined frequency]." The bracketed value is the ODP. Multiply that pattern across the requirement set and Rev. 3 becomes partly a standard and partly a questionnaire — one your program must answer in writing before an assessor answers it for you.

Who sets the value

The ODP decision register

The artifact that makes ODPs manageable is a register with one row per parameter:

ColumnWhat goes in it
PARAMETERThe requirement and the specific bracketed value it asks for
VALUEThe chosen value — per customer where values differ
SOURCEWho set it: agency directive, contract clause, or organizational decision
RATIONALEWhy this value is appropriate for your risk and operations
IMPLEMENTATIONWhere the value is enforced — the Conditional Access policy, Intune profile, or process document that embodies it
REVIEW DATEWhen the value is next revisited — because values drift out of truth quietly

The failure modes assessors catch

Register built for you

The ODP register is a deliverable of our Rev. 3 transition.

Every parameter enumerated, valued, sourced, and wired to the configuration that enforces it — as part of a fixed transition scope. Or email rj@indirectit.com directly.
